Kawasaki disease most often affects the coronary arteries, usually by weakening their walls. Kawasaki disease may also cause inflammation of the heart muscle (called myocarditis) or the sac surrounding the heart (called pericarditis). It can also lead to abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
